Spatial Pattern in Modeling Electricity Prices: Evidence from the Pjm Market

چکیده

This paper analyses the evolution of electricity prices in deregulated market. I formulate a model that takes into account the spatial features of a network of a market. The model is applied to equilibrium electricity spot prices of the PJM market. An empirical analysis indicates that the problem of unobserved spatial correlation in the network can be modeled by the Spatial Error Model providing an additional insight about the spot electricity prices in the PJM market. The topology of the network and the structure of the market are responsible for the spatial correlation, which should not be ignored by careful research. 1 WVU Department of Economics, PO Box 6025, Morgantown, WV, 26506-6025. A non-parametric structural hybrid modeling approach for electricity prices

We develop a stochastic model of zonal/regional electricity prices, designed to reflect information in fuel forward curves and aggregated capacity and load as well as zonal or regional price spreads. We use a nonparametric model of the supply stack that captures heat rates and fuel prices for all generators in the market operator territory, combined with an adjustment term to approximate conges...

Agent-Based Modeling of Day-Ahead Real Time Pricing in a Pool-Based Electricity Market

In this paper, an agent-based structure of the electricity retail market is presented based on which day-ahead (DA) energy procurement for customers is modeled. Here, we focus on operation of only one Retail Energy Provider (REP) agent who purchases energy from DA pool-based wholesale market and offers DA real time tariffs to a group of its customers. As a model of customer response to the offe...

Total Electricity Demand Modeling: An Application of Spatial Panel Econometric Method

This paper aims to model total electricity demand (incremental) in order to estimate price and income elasticities using provincial data and the spatial panel data method. Electricity demand at the province level is influenced by climatic zones, which can be divided into temperate, cold and sub-tropical. This paper uses time series data for electricity demand in Iran’s 28 provinces, taking into...

Market Organization and Efficiency in Electricity Markets

Electricity markets exhibit two different forms of organization: decentralized bilateral trading and centralized auction markets. Using detailed data on prices, quantities, and production costs, we examine how market outcomes changed when a large region in the Eastern US rapidly switched from a bilateral system of trade to an auction market design in 2004. Although economic theory yields ambigu...

Electricity price forecasting through transfer function models

Forecasting electricity prices in presentday competitive electricity markets is a must for both producers and consumers because both need price estimates to develop their respective market bidding strategies. This paper proposes a transfer function model to predict electricity prices based on both past electricity prices and demands, and discuss the rationale to build it. The importance of elec...
